An Invitation to Pause

By Rev. Jeanne Randall-Bodman, Pastor

Wood bench overlooking mountain peaks.

Just for today.

Just for now.

Be still.

For the faithful who rejoice at the outcome of yesterday’s election, be still and know that people you love in your community are frightened and despairing. Be still and know they have reason to be.

For those in the grip of shock and incomprehension, be still and know that you are not alone.

On this unexpectedly sunny day, turn your eyes to the beauty of the world, fill your heart with the love of your family and friends and be gentle with yourself and the people closest to you.

Give yourself time to do whatever small thing brings you comfort -- a walk, a swim, time in your rocking chair, more carbs than is strictly necessary, your favorite comfort read or favorite show to binge.

In this fraught and frightening moment, let us remember who we are and hold fast to what we value: kindness, integrity, protecting the vulnerable, tenderness, joy.

Remember Kairos, one of the life-giving networks where you are known. Where you belong.

I don't know what the days and weeks ahead will hold. But I believe with my whole heart that our small, valiant congregation is being called to live our faith out loud -- to be a safe harbor to those now most at risk.

For now, it is enough to breathe, be still, and know that God is still love, and we are still God’s people. Joy will come.

Faithfully and with every blessing.
